Someone approaches them — actually approaches them, with intent, as opposed to passing around them as the other pedestrians do. Abbie looks up, their fingers closing back around the lens. They lack the requisite time to anticipate enjoying any degree of recognition when they see the other person's face, but none of the piecemeal data they've gathered so far suggests that 'recognition' would be on the table, anyway.
Maybe it's enough that the stranger meets their eyes, and looks... kind. A small mercy from their oxygen-deprived brain.
Except then the person speaks, and Abbie blinks. "You're English?" There's just enough of an inquiring lilt in their tone to make it a question instead of an accusation. Why would they be hallucinating an English person?
